Who said a prince must only stay in his castle? Well, as you may or may not know, most princes
in the world prefer
to live a safe, comfortable life. But this isn’t the case for England’s
Prince Harry. He is a well-trained pilot
who can fly a helicopter. Although he is a member of England’s royal
family, he wanted to serve
his country. It was back in 2008 when the young prince spent 10 weeks as an infantry
soldier in Helmand province in Afghanistan.
Recently, the
27-year-old prince completed 18 months of combat
training. Don’t let the charming and kind smile fool you. He is a combat-ready
soldier. Finishing at the top of his class, Harry has been preparing to serve as
a front
line Apache attack
helicopter pilot. What’s next for the brave
prince? His new adventure and challenge will be serving as a combat
pilot in Afghanistan. The surprising thing is that he will be joining a unit
where there is the highest kill
rate.
No exact
date has been announced, and no one knows when Prince Harry will begin his duty.
But England’s royal family and the government confirmed that the young prince made his final
decision. So, just exactly what kind of vehicle will Harry be flying? The prince will be controlling an aircraft with missiles and a chain gun. Prince Harry will be responsible
for providing air
cover in dangerous missions conducted by special forces. Reports say that Apache pilots have the highest
death rate of any unit fighting in Afghanistan.
Harry’s older brother,
Prince William, is currently serving as a pilot as well. William, also known
as the Duke of
Cambridge is a search
and rescue
pilot in the Royal Air Force. When Prince Harry starts his tour in Afghanistan,
the two princes of the royal family will be serving in England’s Armed
Forces for the first time together. Can you imagine a member of the royal family flying and
fighting in a warzone? There are no cozy
beds or warm showers. Actually, the prince will have to risk his life once he
enters the warzone.
A recent photo of Prince Harry showed a cut on his
nose. It has been reported that he successfully completed a survival and combat course. In England, less than one
in 10 soldiers applies to become a helicopter pilot in the military. They say
only the best make it to become an Apache pilot. Let’s congratulate the brave
prince’s hard efforts. Good luck on your new adventures in
Afghanistan. | | |
